ooo New Volkswagen Touareg
2010: Volkswagen Touareg
- New family look for SUV
- Hybrid version due
- Lighter and cleaner
Volkswagen is cleaning up the Touareg's act in August when an completely new line-up arrives for its large SUV. The new Touareg is lighter, cleaner and more frugal, and VW promises us there will be a new hybrid-powered version.
What's all the fuss about?
The new family look for the Touareg brings its styling right up to date, but under the skin is where the biggest changes have been made. VW has shed 200kg in bulk compared to the old model and that has big implications for fuel and emissions savings, which makes the new Touareg cheaper to run and own.
Anything that stands out?
A little longer and wider than the outgoing model, the new Touareg is also lower by 20mm so it looks sportier. It should still be good off-road and there's a more dedicated off-roader in the Escape version that uses a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. Other powerplants include a 4.2 V8 turbodiesel and a 3.3-litre supercharged petrol V6 that will be used in the hybrid model for 34.4mpg.
Estimated release date: August is when the first new Touaregs arrive in the UK.
Estimated cost: You'll need from £36,000.
