Porsche reveals greener, leaner Cayenne

Following leaked images that surfaced on the internet, Porsche has finally released official details of its 2011 Cayenne. The new SUV is set to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March.

The addition of a hybrid model to the Cayenne line-up is the most significant introduction to feature on Porsche's Geneva show stand.

The Cayenne S Hybrid is powered by a 333bhp supercharged V6 petrol engine assisted by a 47bhp electric motor.

Capable of running for short periods at up to 40mph on electricity alone, the Cayenne S Hybrid achieves 34.4mpg and 193g/km of CO2 on the official combined consumption cycle.

While the hybrid model boasts the lowest emissions, the new Cayenne Diesel betters its economy with a combined figure of 38.2mpg.

The Diesel and S Hybrid models are joined by an entry-level 3.6-litre V6 Cayenne along with the 4.8-litre V8 Cayenne S and the twin-turbocharged 4.8-litre V8 Turbo.

The flagship Turbo model boasts 500bhp, but still manages 27.6mpg.

Porsche has managed to achieve economy savings of as much as 23 percent by adding stop-start technology, reducing weight and introducing an efficient new automatic transmission.

The Cayenne also debuts an all-new look inside and out, with the exterior styling being particularly striking.

Inside, the cabin follows the style of the Panamera with its high centre console providing a cockpit-like feel for the driver.

Available from May 29 the Cayenne range starts at £41,404 and rises to £81,589.

The Cayenne S Hybrid will cost £57,610.
